Hospice Services 101: Common FAQs

Hospice care can bring in a lot of questions for the patient and their family members. Here is a look at some of the most common questions and answers you should know.

Do hospice services happen at the hospital?

Hospice services can happen at the hospital, but they can also take place in the comfort of a home, in a nursing home, or in the home of a relative or family member. There are also some hospice facilities that allow patients to stay there while they receive care from the staff. At Symphony Hospice, we take our services to our patients wherever they may be.

Is Medicare hospice available?

Medicare hospice is available to patients who have Medicare Part A, and the services are covered under the insurance plan. It is a common misconception that hospice services are not covered by government-funded insurance plans, but that is simply not the case. The services tend to be covered by both government-funded health insurance and many other forms of insurance as well.

Can you choose when the hospice service visits?

You can always create a schedule for when you want hospice to visit, but these professionals are also available pretty much around the clock, so they can be contacted whenever you need them. If there is a time when the patient wants privacy with their family and there is a scheduled hospice visit, you can always reach out to the professional scheduled to visit and make a change.

What happens if the patient no longer wants hospice services?

Patients always have the right to state they no longer want hospice care no matter how long the services have been in use. It is completely up to the patient as to when services should cease.
